Hi,
I am from Australia and using and unlock iphone (with vodafone network) and Firmware 1.0.2 .
I already update App Tapp to 3.0b3
Experieceing some problems with freezzing!!!!
Can I update the apple firmware to 1.1.1?
Will it lock my phone ?
Thanks

Michael said in October 20th, 2007 at 10:27 am

@ Long,

I have been hearing of the freezing problem with unlocked versions.
Some thoughts on this…freezing may be due to the large amount of people using the app and refreshing repositories and downloading new versions of apps (including apptapp).

There may be issues with unlocked phones running older versions but I don’t know at this time. However, there are more an more Jailbreak apps and unlock apps being released so I have a feeling that soon there will be some easier solutions.

For what it’s worth, even with the new AppTapp installed, mine runs very slowly when refreshing the repository.

Good luck,

OK, You have me all excited about this new update to apptapp, and I can’t seem to locate it. I see no link on your
page, and can’t seem to find it elsewhere. Can you give me a hint? I would appreciate it.

@ Long,

There are lots of ways to jailbreak your phone now. I recommend looking through either http://www.iPhoneatlas.com or http://www.TUAW.com for information. I also have some previous posts about my experiences doing it.

@ David,

Remember, AppTapp is the installer that resides on your iPhone and where you can install new applications that you get over the air.

To get the upgrade, simply refresh your old version of AppTapp on your iPhone and it should show up as an update. Just install the update. If you don’t have AppTapp on your phone already, you need to get it on there through JailBreaking or other methods (mentioned above).

Good luck!

i want to add additional community sources to my apptapp 3.0 What is the conceited software beta repository url and/or any that you know about

Michael said in October 22nd, 2007 at 2:17 pm

@ Brian,

You should have Category called “Sources” and that is where you should find “Community Sources” which should enable the Conceited Software stuff.

However, for the “beta” Conceited Software (which only really had the tools needed to help you Jailbreak your 1.1.1 firmware, you need to go (in your iPhone’s Safari) to: http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/beta and that should prompt you to install that repository. I’m not sure if it is still valid or not but that is how I did it.

hey i had apptapp installed on my phone when i first got it i installed a few applications and then the installer icon went away, i was wondering if anyone could assist me or direct me to a thread or site that would explain how to find it if it is still on my phone because i have a few apps that i would like to uninstall

Michael said in October 31st, 2007 at 9:36 am

@ Edward,

I have not noticed any signal change after doing the install. There are other factors that may affect your signal strength (e.g., weather, proximity to other electronic devices, location, etc.)

@ Adm358

That is very odd. Have you tried a soft reset (hold the power button and the home button at the same time until the system restarts). When you said you had it working, was that on the 1.1.1 firmware? Have you synched recently? Are you on an iPhone or an iPod Touch? I have heard that with the Touch, the phone may un-jailbreak your device (self repair). Try a soft reset (described above) and see if it comes back.

Hi adm358,

I hope this is not too late to answer your question.
My brother had the exact same problem. My brother installed a number of 3rd App without Summerboard which allows you to scroll the SpringBoard screen. As a result, icons that are after 16th (the alst row of the SB) disappeared.

My brother reinstalled “Installer” using his computer ((you can google to download the Installer). Then the Installer reappeared on the SB. He reinstaller the SummerBoard after reinstalling the Installer to make sure he can scroll the screen and see all the icons that were hidden.

I hope this helps.
Cheers :)

Hi Diggs, I have downloaded the installer 3.03b thru jailbreak.me I did this to install vt 100 terminal to recover a 7+GB missing memory. I have a previous pre-installed copy of installer app. Iphone was unlocked. Firmware is now 1.1.1 Everything works well except that I have not installed any apps, files on iphone because it only has 35MB free memory. Would it not brick my iphone if I keep the the 3.03b version??? Could you help me recover the missing memory??? Thanks in advance for all the help everyone could share…

@Indresh,

Well, that is an interesting scenario. I suggest that you read through some of my later posts, since the latest firmware that I used and jailbroke was on 1.1.2. Since then, I have upgraded to 1.1.3 and lost all jailbreak possibility (for now).
Good luck!

@ Indresh,

A couple of things you can do, use the SEARCH at the top of the screen. You can also click on the Categories (like iPhone) or some of the Tags (like iPhone). At the bottom of the page, you can find where the most comments are.
However, for you, I would recommend looking at this post.
Hope that helps,

arghhhhhhhh!!! : ( still not working please dont tell me nullriver has scr**ed me over :( need help fast!!!

Michael said in January 22nd, 2008 at 8:01 am

@ Nizzar,

Hmmm. Are you sure you are on 1.1.2? Are you on an iPhone or an iPod Touch? I’m now on 1.1.3 and waiting for a new Jailbreak process.

@ Kim,

I’m wondering if the AppTapp team has released a version that changed some things. Unfortunately, I can’t test it as I’m on 1.1.3 now. There are some commands that you can use via SSH to launch the installer but if you can’t do it through the GUI, I’m not sure if it will work through SSH.

@ Kanie,

Sorry that you are experiencing the same thing. I would NOT use mobile finder to delete anything since you may do other damage to your file structure. Also, there may be items installed in other folders that you would need to delete. Your best bet is to either wait until something new comes out that fixes (might be on some other sites) or upgrade to 1.1.3 (you will lose 3rd party apps) and wait till the jailbreak for that is out (supposedly it has been done but not officially released until Apple releases the SDK). I think the 3rd party developers are waiting to see what happens with the SDK.

arghhh!!! my version iphone is 1.1.3(4A93) with 6.3gb left ….. youve said to the two people above it looks like no help which is getting me worried :( cuz now iv got no installer for my iphone ….do you think if i leave my phone for a while or sumet it will just come back??? like a bug in nullriver etc??? idont use my computer to donload to phone i do it all through the phone using sources etc..but now it seems installers dead :(… worried cus my phone was specially unlocked and i am on pay as yu go 02…please you gotta try help me here otherwise im just seeing nullriver as a virus plz help!!…i would try fix the problem but i cant because the installer completely wont load on my phone :( plz plz help

Michael said in January 22nd, 2008 at 12:46 pm

@ Kanie,

Well, since your iPhone version is 1.1.3, you cannot use the installer. You must have done the install through iTunes and your firmware is upgraded (and your iPhone is now NOT jailbroken). The firmware 1.1.3 does re-lock your phone as well as un-jailbreak it. In the future, you really need to be careful on what you choose to upgrade. This has nothing to do with nullriver. You simply upgraded your firmware and now you are stuck until someone figures out an easy way to jailbreak and/or unlock.
Sorry to bring you bad news.

Kanie said in January 22nd, 2008 at 12:53 pm

what do you mean locked?? now my phones installers gone for good?? when i was on my iphone i was on 1.1.3 through bigboss source and it was working fine through the weeks untill nullriver update i didnt update through itunes i never do itunes.. nullriver was the last update and thats what caused it to not open again… so now its like this with no installer what happens??

Michael said in January 22nd, 2008 at 1:00 pm

@ Kanie,

I guess I’m a bit confused. Firmware 1.1.3 for the iPhone disables the use of the Installer. By applying the firmware from Apple (via iTunes), you phone is put back to being un-jailbroken. Also, for people who had an unlocked phone (in the US, I believe), the phone is now re-locked (meaning, you can’t use with Tmobile in the US).
However, if you are using a NEW installer of AppTapp or whatever (meaning released within the past day or so), I don’t know how it works (as I have not installed yet on my iPhone).
Please, when posting, be clear on what you have done and what you are trying to do. I know that you are in an “emergency,” but you have to understand that any time you work with 3rd party apps and/or unlock your phone, the second you install new firmware (like 1.1.3), you phone is re-locked or un-jailbroken.
Hope you understand.

ok ok here goes …. i had installer with 1.1.3 working perfect on my iphone perfect.. then i went onto installer and wanted to find a download better version for my game roms on my phone but was prompted to upgrade by nullriver to 3.0b3 so i thought ok thats cool as usual…the minute it was saying refreshing it flicked off and since then i have not been able to use my iphone installer.. so it deffinetley was the update from nullriver nothing else…i do know what i was doing and thought it was a trusted source but it seems not. my itunes internet phone calls txt messaging map google sytem evrything except for installer still works so it cant be locked…it all works fine except for installer the only one. theres gotta be a problem with nullriver i aswell dont want it to happen to someone else…so now all i feel is my phones installers gone and im getting no help :( except for being told i should be careful of what i download when it was this nullriver that caused it..you gotta see my point! :( Kanie

michsul said in January 22nd, 2008 at 6:59 pm

I still can not find a fix to the problem, and nullriver is not saying anything about this problem that is going around. did anyone see or found any solution some where please let me know ASAP. Just in case you do not know what Iam talking about in regard to the problem it is that:
One dark night I started IPHONE as usaual and straight to installer to check what is new. Then I saw it a UFO (upgrade File opject) Prompt. Immediatly I proceeded to dounload and that was the begining of the end of my installer. All it does after that is start to empty page and shuts immediatly as like the UFO has kidnapped all the installer.
Facts of demized: The Iphone is running 1.1.2 and is jailproken and has no carrier service just used with wifi. every thing was working fine till the day of I-UFO when time stood still.

Kanie said in January 23rd, 2008 at 2:55 am

see nullrivers killing the installer!!!…. sumets gotta be done theres gotta be a way to get installer back!!! its happening to alot of people!!!! ive been on the net all night and alot more people have this problem :( whats happening??

I have 1.1.1 iPhone and my girl has a 1.0.2 and we both updated and both can not use installer any more. It will not loaf up and returns to the home screen. I click the app and it goes as it will start but stays blank white and then goes back to home screen. Has anyone downloaded voice commader whom had this problem. I think its a virus of some sort that did this which locks up installer so you can’t add or delete it.

frank lacorte said in January 25th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

also the update was different. It asked to update installer before installer was fully open. It was more like a pop up opposed to update. Usually updates are done in the updates tab. I def think its some sort of virus that was installed through installer and acted as a update for installer. I havea funny feeling it was voicecommander because it didnt work after installed and when i uninstalled it didnt seem to be fully gone.

for those with 1.1.3 use ziphone. Works great to jailbreak. As far as this installer crash, same thing happened as far as the update but I can still connect and download. But I can not add sources, or rather I add sources but no content is added. I really wanted those nes roms too

Hi, previously was using v.1.0.2 unlock iphone. After I install a few apps using installer, my install icon was lost as I install quite a few items result in unable to get to the installer. After which, I connect my iphone to itunes and accidently upgrade my phone to v.1.1.3…. my phone was lock and i tried to unlock it by myself using a programe. Currently my phone was unlock and i was able to use. However, I am unable to install any app as I always got a msg stating “package download failed: Can’t fiind host”

How should I solve this problem as I wanted to download certain app…. Thanks

mike said in February 16th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

@candy

Did you use ziphone? You may have to restore and try again. Make sure you download bsd subsystems and open ssh first thing. Some have had success with downgrading installer to 3.8 but that didn’t work for me.
